I have been interested in drawing and painting since third grade,
excited by an 8-pack of Crayola crayons. Years later I received formal art
education at the University of Colorado and the University of Texas, receiving honors and awards from both schools.
For a decade after college, I traveled and played in many colorful
locals. I worked as a professional portrait painter in the French Quarter of
New Orleans for 3 years, then spent the next 4 years in Europe, residing in
Scotland and the Southern Coast of Spain.
I have lived in the Seattle area now for almost 20 years. My work has
been exhibited in various galleries throughout downtown Seattle, Kirkland,
Everett, Edmonds, Bothell, and Camano Island.
Acrylic paint on canvas or masonite has become my favorite medium. Depicting people, either in groups or luxuriating alone is my most frequent
subject matter. I love color and brilliant light, which adds dramatic shadows to the compositions.
Arts Umbrella hired me in 2000. I have been very proud to teach on their staff, amongst talented artists with generous spirits. The Youth Arts program has been an uplifting experience. I embrace the young students' fresh perspectives, energy level, and willingness for experimentation. They help me remember that I never want to paint like a little old lady! |
