A native of the Midwest, Janeen grew up with an interest in the arts and nature. Her grandfather was a large influence because of his love for the outdoors and as an avid birdwatcher. They spent much time exploring the creeks and habitats around the farmlands of Nebraska. The love of these natural things was expressed in her drawings and paintings as she grew up.
Janeen started her art career as a commercial artist in 1976 for a Savings and Loan in Denver, Colorado. In 1980 she began to develop her expertise in watercolor, specializing in birds and landscapes.
Having studied all watercolor techniques Janeen has found specializing in the realistic technique of glazing to be her preferred style.
Now living on the west coast of Washington state, she spends much of her time with camera and plein air pack capturing the beauty of harbors, shorelines and historic homes found on the coast.
She has shown her work throughout the West at art shows and galleries. These include Saks Gallery of Denver, Colorado and the Parkside Gallery in Carmel, California. Janeen’s work is featured in exhibits that include the National Museum of Wildlife Art in Jackson Hole, Wyoming, The American Miniature Show in Tucson, Arizona and Miniatures by the Lake in Coeur D’ Alene, Idaho.
Janeen’s classes are open and welcome to beginners as well as advanced. Come and enjoy one session or all day with Janeen. There will be no regular classes during the months of June, July and August but will offer an occasional workshop during those months.
